Pulsar PSU
« on: August 15, 2017, 03:17:32 pm »
I was looking for a SMPSU (12V, ~3A) for a home security system. I wanted it to have an UPS function, so that it could be powered from a battery under power failure, and I also wanted it to be able to detect when battery is low. The only thing I could find was a PSU made by Pulsar (Poland). Maybe someone will find it interesting to see higher resolution photos of its insides. All the caps are branded as DTDZ. Overall, I was not impressed. Does anyone know any similar but better built products?

No, I don't think so.

If you were OK with using 3 of these:

it would at least be cheaper :)

For that price, it looks to be a good one and it is better built: https://www.mikrocontroller.net/attachment/326001/20170404_230137.jpg

Did you happen to have a datasheet for that device? I am very tempted to buy a few of those, but there is almost no information available about it.

I would like to know if it has short circuit, overload and battery cut-off protections and if it can indicate when battery is low.

Have you looked at products from alarm companies.

For instance, in my alarm panel, I have one of these:

to run some auxiliary functions that are higher current than supported by the main alarm panel.

They are one the popular DIY-friendly manufacturers in the US. They have several power supply products that could meet your requirements.
