Rackmount alternatives for Siglent gear
« on: March 19, 2019, 01:34:26 pm »
I'd like to rack mount some of my siglent gear to save workbench space... but the rackmount kits sold by siglent seem hideously expensive compared to buying, say, a 19"x6" 'shelf' for considerably less off Amazon.... only issue there is the gear really isn't secure, it's just setting on a shelf...

wondering if anyone has concocted an alternative or has any ideas.
A hollow voice says 'PLUGH'.

Tie it with a strap.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

How secure does it need to be?  If they sell rackmount hardware, then there should be mounting points, it's just a matter of making up a bracket and buying some screws if you want a really solid mounting.  I don't know if I would require especially sturdy mounting for a home lab, so a shelf as long as it can't slide super quickly (provided it's a slide-out shelf) would probably be fine alone if there were decent no-slip feet on the equipment.  Wouldn't stand up to an earthquake, though, so maybe in some areas that woudn't do.

A strap would work too, if you perforated your rack shelf a couple of times, you could just use rope as well.

Prices are not excessive for rackmounts that secure expensive and/or heavy equipment.
They vary from $129 to $155.

If it's just security against falling or toppling from a rack, could you adapt a bracket to attach to the Kensington lock ?
