Anyone have the new Feel Tech FY2300H Frequency Generator?
« on: January 27, 2017, 12:44:33 am »
I'm looking for an okay, relatively inexpensive frequency generator.  I found that the FY2300 has been updated to the 'H' version with
Support for
  • up to 60Mhz sine waves
  • 25Mhz for square
  • 20Mhz for triangle
  • 14bit DA
  • 250MSa/s
  • 8192*14bits for storage of each waveform

I found it here https://www.aliexpress.com/item/FY2300H-25MHz-Arbitrary-Waveform-Dual-Channel-High-Frequency-Signal-Generator-250MSa-s-100MHz-Frequency-meter-DDS/32684831605.html?spm=2114.10010108.1000023.2.tYwGbJ
$128.80 for the 25Mhz version.

I know there is the older slightly lower spec version that is a bit cheaper, but I though with 14bit etc, the quality of the waveforms may be better. Does anyone have this version that can provide input?

I have not been able to find the english version of the documentation.

I hope that they also update their cheap bench model with this new chip.

I have not heard about this 60MHz, H version before. Do share any additional info you find.

Details about this new version can be found in the press release on the FeelTech website:
http://en.feeltech.net/html/dynamics/show_49.html

And here is a link to the user's manual for this newer version:
http://en.feeltech.net/html/dynamics/show_50.html

This improved version is for the compact model, and not for the bench model.

It's weird IMO that they don't release the same for the bench model.

I would in fact expect that bench model users have higher requirements than compact model users.
So why don't the Chinese think like this as well? :)

The older models used just a cheap as R2R chain for the DACs, with just plain 1% resistors and not taking into account output impedance. Here is does not make a big difference if you go from 8 Bit to 12 or 14 bits, if accuracy is good for 6 bits.

If it uses a real DAC chip, it can be a significant improvement, though it would add to the costs quite a bit. The description on the website promises it. So it is not only the higher speed but also more accuracy.

It looks like a neat general purpose generator and if this ones uses a real DAC then Feeltech is definitely stepping up. I'd like to see a teardown!

They indicate that it includes a new power supply design, so hopefully they have addressed the ground earthing issue.

Oh, it's for the compact version. I see. Well, they do sound like good enhancements/fixes.

i have this FY2300H 25MHZ version.

Model FY2325H
Ver v3.1

Quality of waveform is nice...

But it have big trouble with SWEEP function.

When i try to use a Sweep functions, the TIME is incorrect.

for example, i set Sweep to

Object:Freq
Start: 0HZ
END:20000Hz
TIME: 010.00s
MODE:Linear

and look what i see at picture.

Channel 1 (yellow) is Sweep from CH1 FY2300H
Channel 2 (Blue) is Ramp 0.1Hz signal from CH2 FY2300H

2sec per Cell.

The Sweep TIME is not a 10sec, is shorter (~9sec)

I try set different Sweep TIME, and it always shorter what i set.

And the second trouble...
if i stop Sweeping and change the start point, it not start from new point,
it start from point when i press ADJ knob to stop Sweep, very funny...)

If i turn power OFF and ON, the first time Sweep start from start
point, but the second time is always start from point when i press ADJ
knob to stop Sweep.

SWEEP Is not work like write on instruction manual...

I email to manufacturer few times, but he keep silents.
Seller on Aliexpress confirm this trouble and said me, return it back to upgrade, and he can't send me new firmware.
No support for this unit, It sad(

Else is some pics...

with Tectronix AFG3022B.

Despite all this, I found some strange way, how to use SWEEP on this unit.

If i need Sweep for 10 sec, i just set it to 11.2sec)

And if i need change the start or end point,
the first, i need set Time to zero (0.01sec), then run and stop Sweep
after what i set wanted point and time, run it again, and it works  )

Very strange behavior. Thanks for all the pics and attachments.

Does this model have the discontinuity near zero crossing that the 3200S exhibits?

Hello pcbroute,

I can confirm the behavior with the sweep function. The time is not correct.
I don't have the fy2300h but the old one and this bug is also present.
I tried to contact feeltech, but they didn't answer to my email.

I hope one day, somebody will try to redevelop the firmware and will ehance it.

Regards.

Does anyone know what's the difference between different versions of FY2300H on a hardware level? I mean, 30MHz, 40MHz, etc versions. Any data on actual performance would be great.
