Rigol DM3058E (5.5 digit DMM) replacement?
« on: March 01, 2019, 07:30:04 am »
At the risk of starting a false rumor, I notice that:

* TEquipment.net is selling their demo Rigol DM3058E at a discount: https://www.tequipment.net/Rigol/DM3058E-B/

and,

* This guy is selling a new one on eBay for way less than the going price (starting bid, anyway): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rigol-DM3058E-5-1-2-Digit-Benchtop-Digital-Multimeter-with-USB-and-RS-232/283392792369

This model has been around for quite a while, and doesn't have the fancy OLED display that some of its competitors do (other than that it's a very solid DMM for the price - I've had one for a few years).

I'm wondering if this means that a replacement model is coming soon...? (I'm in the market for another one, which is why I noticed.)

There comes a point when demo units are no longer needed for distributors and resellers when the product is well established in the marketplace and there are plenty of reviews and info about them online.
Also, products can be part of a model series and it makes no sense to have demos of each model, only the top model in a line.
I've moved a few on for the reasons outlined above.

Maybe I'll bid on the eBay one, then.

Or they have half a dozen demo units early in a product's lifecycle, but pretty quickly the hubub dies away and having just one kicking around for test, demo, warranty loaner, etc. is fine.
