Rigol DS1000 series (1052E, 1102D...) and Windows 8 ?
« on: April 25, 2015, 08:41:47 pm »
Hello,

I'm sorry if the question has already been covered (probably), but the Search feature didn't provide any answer to me.

I've got a genuine Rigol DS1102D (100MHz + 16 ch LA) and I'm trying to use it with Windows 8, using Ultrascope software.

Unfortunately I'm stuck at the driver install.

I've tried to install the official driver, which is very old (2006), and of course not signed. Obviously, it fails |O.

I've tried to
- completely disable Windows 8 driver signature check (advanced restart, Disable Driver Signature Enforcement).
- install driver from Install.exe : it warns me about not signed driver, I tell it it's ok, and the message continuously loops until I close it.
- Install driver from Device manager, it doesn't see the driver
- Install driver manually (right click on Rigolusb.inf, install) : it tells me it's all ok, but in Device manager the device remains uninstalled  :-\.

I've also installed NIVISAruntime.msi and IviSharedComponents64_2.3.0 but it didn't change a thing.

Did somebody found a way to make this damn scope usable in USB with W8 (with official driver / tools, or not !) ?

Thanks ! :)

Ok. I'm discovering interessant things.
It looks like to have two versions of Ultrascope, one for legacy USB driver of Rigol scopes (which should not been used anymore) and one for VISA support.
The second one doesn't require the USB driver.
Here's some informations : http://beyondmeasure.rigoltech.com/acton/attachment/1579/f-00c9/0/-/-/-/-/file.pdf

Unfortunately, it still doesn't work : everything installs fine, but at startup Rigolscope displays "Runtime error 48, File not found : VISA32.dll".
I suspect a DLL mismatch, especially since I'm under Windows x64. I'm trying now to download the last NI VISA driver : http://www.ni.com/download/ni-visa-run-time-engine-14.0.1/5024/en/
The NI website download management seems to be broken but I found this direct link : download.ni.com/support/softlib/visa/VISA%20Run-Time%20Engine/14.0.1/NIVISA1401runtime_downloader.exe

Finally it seems to be working.

- Install NI-VISA Run-Time Engine 14.0.1 - ETS, VxWorks, NI Linux RT, Windows 8.1 32-bit/8.1 64-bit/7 64-bit/7 32-bit/Vista 64-bit/Vista 32-bit/XP (SP3) 32-bit/Server 2008 R2 64-bit/Server 2003 R2 32-bit
- use the version of Ultrascope here : http://www.rigol.com/prodserv/DS1000D/software/ (mine is 00.01.07).

Avoid to use the Ultrascope version which is shipped with an USB driver (it was for me the 00.01.01).

See here for more informations : http://beyondmeasure.rigoltech.com/acton/attachment/1579/f-00c9/0/-/-/-/-/file.pdf

I've also discovered Sigrok Pulseview which is a very nice replacement tool for Ultrascope, because it enables lot of protocol decoding features.
To make it work you have to install one specific driver :
http://sigrok.org/wiki/Windows#Device_specific_USB_driver
Which seems unfortunately to be a kind of in place replacement for the VISA, so now I've installed it Ultrascope doesn't work anymore...

Is there a way to allow both to work?
