Rigol ds1054z or ds1074z?
« on: November 25, 2015, 11:04:16 pm »

I noticed on Tequipment that there is a black friday deal on the ds1074z for $399.

With the eevblog discount I can get a ds1054z for $356. Checking on the Rigol site it looks like these are identical except  for bandwidth.  After some research on here it seems that an unlock code can be applied to Rigol equipment. If the ds1054z can be unlocked for >70MHz I think it would be the better deal.

Can anyone verify that the unlock works with a recently purchased ds1054z? If so, I'll get the ds1054z and save $43.

I've used only analog scopes for about 30 years. Recently a friend let me borrow his DSO. I didn't want to give it back! The DSO handles the weak points of an analog scope very well.

Yes, you can still enable all options and hack the bandwidth to 100MHz.  :-+

I was curious about something as a potential future owner of a DS1054Z.  Is the hack reversable?  Maybe it might be necessary if you were doing a warranty claim on the scope.
