rigol ds2202 does not auto on i2c
« on: May 01, 2013, 11:25:50 pm »
Hi everyone.
I got my new rigol ds2202 and i got 2 problems.

1. the scope does not auto set when on i2c i only use manual setting.
2. i got no decoding on i2c.

another thing: i got no calibration certificate with the scope, and i got it with a dust on the screen. can i be it's not new?

thank you all.

Auto setting functions are normally extremely simple; I've never tried it but I doubt they work on any complex triggers.

Well, I don't know what to tell you about that. I've used the I2C decoding on the DS2000 and it seemed to work fine; you can see me doing it here in my video.

Hi everyone.
2. i got no decoding on i2c.

It works fine. Have you tried different sweep times?

"speep times"? what does it mean? do you mean the time/dev?

Yes, try to turn time/dev knob to ditterent positions, faster or slower.

More instructions:
-Change trigger to I2C
-Press Decode 1 button and choose Decode as I2C
- You should see now yellow box with I2C text on the left side of the window
-Adjust trigger levels within the traces with SDATreshold and SCLKTreshold
- Now you should get decodings

Look at attached picture!

thanks for taking your time for explaining me. but i did all that several times and with no success. what is the SDATrashold and the SCLKTrashold?

when pressint "auto" it will no auto fix the voltage.  i get voltage/dev around 50ma, why?

I'll try it again and snapsot it.

I think if you don't understand what SDA and SCLK threshold voltages are, I'm not really sure you understand the protocol well enough to be trying to decode it. Perhaps you need to first read about the protocol at websites like this: http://www.i2c-bus.org/common-problems/

I understand the protocol from what i've read. i wrote this ptrotocol in a project i'm working on and it's working well. i just wanted to learn how to display it on my new scope.

I found what my problem was. while uploading the pictures i found out i accedently set the SDAtrashold to 4.8mv instead of 4.8v...

but why it's not setting it automatically? why there is a need to set the trashold manually and the vold/dev?
isn't it suppose to do it automatically?

thanks

No. The thresholds are normally 0.3 Vcc and 0.7 Vcc - how would the DSO know what Vcc is?

I really wish oscilloscope makers would get rid of the AUTOset button - since they actually do so very little, but their presence seems to convince many users that they do a lot.

The Autoset button on my DSOX2002A is entrenched (deepened) because real engineers don't use it often. https://www.eevblog.com/forum/reviews/my-new-toy-%29-agilent-dsox2002a-sex-on-a-stick!/?action=dlattach;attach=44101;image

It is better to learn to use brains than "auto buttons".  ;D
