Rigol DSA815-TG - Weird behavior.
« on: September 05, 2013, 06:58:11 pm »
How does one uninstall the options on the DSA815-TG?  SCPI seems to be working OK but I have tried SYSTEM:OPTION:UNINSTALL but doesn't work.  Is there a known good procedure?

Here is the oddball behavior...

1. The keys are unresponsive - except - if enter the decimal/hash key first then try other keys like bw/det, system, meas, tg, etc they work for a short period of time then become unresponsive again. For this short time, menus, etc work as normal, but after the timeout, they stop working with the exception in the case of multi-page menus, one can toggle through the pages with the down arrow key at the bottom of the column.

2. Hold down the freq button and turn the knob, center frequency will change. In some cases, the keys once again become responsive as above.

3. Regardless of the setting, after a short while (longer than keypress enable) the settings go back to factory default, i.e. 750 MHz center frequency, full span.

Was able to do keyboard test, all keys test OK.

Most likely needs firmware reinstall. First I'd like to uninstall the extra options to see if the problem was caused when the trial options expired (?). Otherwise, does anybody have access to the firmware update files and the method to install them at boot time?

Thanks

Yes. Did not work.  Have you tried it yourself, did it work for you?

Cannot try it as I haven't got the 815 :( Only the 2072 o-scope, and have no intentions to revert back  :-+

Opted for a HP8560E which should show up any day :D

Firmware install 00.01.07 didn't change the problem!  It's going back to Rigol for repair.  I hope the keys don't void the warranty. :(

I had to send back my DSO2072 (unhacked) for a similar problem.  After a random amount of time all the keys & knobs become unresponsive.  However the screen was still live and displayed signals no problems. It's sitting in Rigol RMA limbo right now.   |O

Shipped it off this morning without being able to remove the lkeys.  Hopefully they will ignore and just make the thing work. Otherwise, I'll end up paying for their shop time.

RigolNA had it on the bench for a couple of weeks but couldn't get it to fail. They shipped it back, should have it in a few days. No mention of lkeys.

It came in this morning, same box as shipped but not wrapped in plastic bag inside.  Keyboard works normally. Looks like no problem with options enabled.

Flacky connection of some flat cable?
Transport fixed it?

Sure looks like it. It bothers me that warranty seal looks untouched. If I had been responsible for repair, I would have at least opened it up and inspected and reseated connectors. I don't like problems that magically fix themselves.
