I haven't used my MSO1074Z much since I upgraded from my 1054Z, but today I realized there is a very serious issue, the vertical scale knob doesn't work! Instead, it operates like a second vertical position knob, moving the waveform up/down instead of changing the scale. I'm on firmware version 4.04.SP1. I decided to look and see if there was a more recent firmware update, and when I filled out the form on the rigol site, they sent me 4.03.SP2! I don't recall this being an issue when I first unboxed it, I feel like it probably started when I upgraded to 4.04.SP1. Has anybody else experienced this issue? Does anybody know why they're sending out 4.03.SP2 as the latest firmware, when I know I downloaded 4.04.SP1 from their site a few month back? Is there any way to fix it? Not being able to set my vertical scale is pretty awful, especially now that I've sold my 1054, and this is my only scope :(

Yes, press it and try again.

I did that, it just switched between 2 different step sizes, but still only changes position, not scale.

That's very strange symptoms. I can't think what could be causing it apart from a bad front panel (a bad ROM in the knobs+buttons microcontroller?)
You can try connecting with ethernet cable and telnet (port 5555). Type things like:
:CHAN1:SCALE 1
:CHAN1:SCALE 2
to see if it changes.
You're probably going to have to send it back for a replacement though.

There might be a problem with 4.04.SP1. Rigol is investigating.

Is there any change in the behavior between DC and AC coupling the signal?
Can you show us a screencopy of your scope with:
- Channel 1 an Channel 2 together connected to the cal-signal from the scope.
- Channel 1 simply showing the cal signal.
- Channel 2 "shifted" with the fine setting of the vertical adjustment?
-
Playing around some more, vertical scaling works just fine on channel 2, it's only on channel 1 that it is functioning like the position knob. I'll try out the other suggestions and report back.
Edit: And now it's working fine on channel 1. Either something's weird or I'm going crazy. I'm gonna go grab some food and come back to this with a clearer head and see if maybe this was just a PEBKAC.

Does the "vernier mode" work as expected on all channels?

I vaguely recall the vert knob working an active field. Meaning, when I had the offset menu item open and was adjusting, I could use either knob. I'll look at mine tonight if others haven't pounced yet.
