I got a good condition Lecroy waverunner 6100A, and like to update the CPU/RAM/HDD, for the lowest risk.

I read many threads about the updating of Lecroy waverunner series scope, however, no one mentioned using a SATA3 SDD to replace the IDE HDD, they all use a PATA SDD. I don't know why.

My scope's motherboard is Intel 865GLC chipset, I guess there should be 2 SATA ports on the board (I haven't teardown the scope yet, so I guess). I wonder whether can I update the PATA IDE with a new one SATA3 SDD.

Does anyone have those kinds of experience about it?

If the motherboard has Sata ports then I don't see why you can't use them. But you should check if the motherboard doesn't have hardware bugs in the Sata ports.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.
