Siglent SPD3303X LCD Screen Query
« on: August 14, 2018, 12:30:35 pm »
Hello,

A few months ago I purchased the SPD3303X power supply for my workbench. I now need to perform some long-term PCB testing, keeping the supply on 24/7 for months.

Should I have any concerns about keeping that big LCD on over the longevity testing? I don't see any way off turning off the LCD or dimming it. Would be nice to turn it off, pushing a button or something.

Thank you...

In early firmware versions Siglent had a screensaver feature and it was widely criticized as not being necessary for a TFT display so it was removed.
There's mention of it in the SDP3303X thread if you want to hunt it out and read the reasoning why it's not deemed necessary for TFT displays.

Though tautech basically said it, the answer is no.  Modern TFT LCDs don't suffer from the same kind of burn in that plasma screens or OLED screens, so the only issue with leaving it on long term is the normal concerns with powered up electronics (so very little) and then maybe backlight aging?  If it's a CCFL maybe that's something, but if it's LED backlit, then you're going to be looking at electrolytic caps drying out as being probably more of a concern than anything screen related in terms of high-uptime longevity.

Some more info for you.
The last FW version before the screensaver was dropped was Version P02.02R2 and available on the Shenzhen website: http://www.siglent.com/ENs/gjjrj-xq.aspx?id=1409&tid=15
However earlier FW versions didn't have the same good GUI that we have today and some of the displayed values were missing. The screensaver was removed with this FW version: http://www.siglent.com/ENs/gjjrj-xq.aspx?id=1790&tid=15

Note: to download FW from the Shenzhen site you must register while downloads can be anonymous from US and EU sites but not all old FW versions are available.
