Strange USB connector
« on: November 16, 2016, 04:30:32 pm »
I have a weird USB connector it is smaller than the common micro-B which is used commonly on mobile phones it is just as thin but shorter. Is is not micro A or micro B, so what is it? I have attached a photo with it next to a standard micro-B connector.

Many thanks

This? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wired-up-HDMI-Mini-Male-Cable/dp/B00104UO88/ref=pd_lpo_23_bs_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=YTWZV636Z3G4WX48K4PJ

Or not, I've seen that connector on cameras. Don't know the name. Could be Micro-HDMI?

What's on the other end? HDMI was the first thing I thought of, but not likely if the other end is USB.

What product does it connect to ?

Sadly manufacturers such as ARCHOS use pseudo USB connectors that are proprietary in order to force owners to pay silly prices for optional cables. Some cameras use non standard USB connectors as well. A real nightmare to find a 3rd party connector that will fit.

In the OP's photo, the USB connector on the left looks a lot like Nikon's USB connectors that are used on several Nikon DSLRs.

It is USB, not HDMI. It is not square, it actually looks like a mini-micro-B :)

Well it's going to be one of these proprietary connectors on some cameras that outputs HDMI and/or USB.

Magnifying glass shows there are 8 pins! So it could be this one most likely...

I would guess it is semi custom 8 pin USB connector. Same as used in keychain cameras KeyCam #18 / #1080 AV Cable Pin Assignment
You can find this connector on eBay.
