Tektronix 2225
« on: October 26, 2013, 02:51:23 pm »
I have a chance to purchase a broken Tektronix 2225 for $40 + $33 shipping. Should I go for it? The seller says there is a broken vertical board, and he purchased a replacement but doesn't know how to install it.
I'm not saying we should kill all stupid people. I'm just saying that we should remove all product safety labels and let natural selection do its work.

Do you have the equipment to calibrate it? Look at the service manual what do you need.

Go for it I say. I bought the same one for 130 USD (with shipping) and haven't regretted it. It is a good reliable piece of equipment. The biggest problem you will encounter is taking of the knobs, if it wasn't serviced lately. (I know mine was a pain to take apart)

Good. You should do a full adjustment after a board swap.

But i don't think it's a good deal. I would not pay more than 20-25% of which i would pay for a working one. The 2225 is a very basic scope.

And the replacement board could be damaged. IMHO 10-20$ with shipping would be ok.

Ok. So basically, the selling price is still a bit high? I know that 2225 prices have skyrocketed after Dave did a video on them.

Yes, the selling price is too high. It's broken. And I would place the 2225 a bit over the 20MHz  <=50$ class. Why do you want a 2225?

I just wanted a cheap analog scope, and love old Tek gear.

Ok. Tektronix aren't usually cheap. But i would look for one with dual timebase. That's the main shortcoming of the 2225 IMHO.
