Siglent 1202X-E Serial Decoding not working
« on: March 08, 2019, 09:28:29 pm »
Serail decoding does not seem to be working on my Siglent and was wondering what I night be doing wrong.  I viewed Dave's video and I think I have everything setup the same but it still does not seem to decode so not sure what I am missing.

I am sending an A at 9600 baud async

Under the signal menu, ensure that Rx and Tx are both on channel 1.  Also, check your threshold levels are appropriate

First and foremost ensure you have:
Latest firmware V1.3.23
Rock solid stable triggering

Yours looks OK but a few tips to get it:
Set Trigger for falling edge and adjust Holdoff to greater than one packet length.

Decode setting to Idle High.

USB stick screenshots are the simplest to grab using the blue Print button and give small png files of a few 10's of KBs.
We'll get you there with screenshots of your progress, tip; get the various menus in the screenshot so we can see your settings.  ;)

Thanks.   Perfect instructions.    That did it first time!

.I don't know I sort of like the EasyScope Screen shot method.   No transferring a USB drive back and forth.   This one attached is using the USB drive method.   File is a bit smaller.

I intentionally  used the virtual panel  in my first post.   I wanted to show the settings.   I did not realize Easyscope also has a screen shot mode.   And if you do a file save there, the file nice is not as good as the USB drive method but better than taking a Windows screen shot.

Upgraded firmware version.    I am assuming this is what you meant by 1.3.23?

:-+

Now a small exercise now you have Decode sorta sorted.  ;)

Slow the timebase right down to just above Roll mode so to have several/many packets on the display.
Now press the timebase knob to get into Zoom mode and then use the timebase again to select how large/small your zoomed data stream portion is.
Doing this you can a heap of packets on the display, all decoded and data visible in the List when it's turned ON.
The highlight line is 1/2 way down the list and you can scroll though it with each decoded line time referenced in relation to the trigger point.
Once you get into advanced triggering with the Decode trigger suite, again each line is time referenced WRT the trigger point.

Have fun.  :)
