Tektronix 7603 Oscilloscope Sweeping Issue.
« on: August 02, 2018, 09:03:34 am »
I found this scope inside the basement of the house and when I fired it up I noticed a problem, straight away.It has come to me that the horizontal sweeping has an issue (preferably the timing plugin failed) and  where the vertical sweeping is fine.I believe it works as I rapidly shake my head  i could see the signal producing on the CRT display. Any help provided would really be appreciated. :D

Hi,
as a very quick test of the horizontal deflection system of the Tek 7603 you can
extract the vertical B and the horizontal plug ins and put them aside.
Then extract the vertical A plug in (that apparently is working) and put
it in the horizontal compartment (that is the rightmost one) then
connect the calibrator signal to the input of the vertical plug in
as you can see in the the first attachment (is a Tek 7854, but the concept
is the very same).
Turn everything on and if the horizontal deflection system of the scope is
working then you should see two dots like in the second picture.
The dots should move horizontally by moving the position knob of the
plug in.
If you see just one dot even cranking up (gently) the vertical scale, or if
the dots do not move with turning the position knob, then there are very
high chances that is the horizontal deflection of the scope that is broken.

Please, keep the luminosity lower than in the video  :--  you are going to
burn the CRT.
Cheers,

      Gene

P.S. the blue lights of the horizontal plug-ins are very glamorous!  :-+
