My Heathkit ID-22 is set to be delivered on Saturday, its Friday night for us American heathens.
A hopeless addict (and slave) to TEA and a firm believer that high frequency is little more than modern hoodoo.

Mid Range capacitors on it are way better than my $100 meters.

I do need to buy a good LCR meter at some stage the DE-5000 looks like about the pick for price over performance for a new one and a good secondhand bench one hasn't presented itself.

Lacking either of those (both are a bit newer than what I typically collect), I'm afraid I'll have to decline your extremely generous offer.   :-DD

Wow i have never seen point to point wiring that looked so nice and tidy. Props to the guy with pliers and a soldering iron who did it.

It's extra special so it introduces as little extra capacitance as possible, it's more like busbars than wiring normally.

Looking at the Yokogawa label on the back is interesting. All the fasteners are metric so I would suspect it may be a designed and built in Japan. Delicate precise and crafted.

By Comparison the Cambridge boxes are like a Series Three Landrover. Tough Rugged and providing the wiring doesn't catch fire a good thing >:D

Never had trouble with the wiring in the one I had but I was sure glad it didn't have the POS factory diesel or thirsty petrol under the hood when I got it.
Instead a trusty 186 CUI straight 6 Holden that never gave trouble and pulled like a fourth former.
An aftermarket overdrive and Rover 90 4.3 diff heads made it reasonably economical on the open road.

I got it cheap as someone had tried to shoehorn a ZF gearbox into it and that went for flying lessons and a handbuilt 2A box went into it. I used whatever good parts I could find to build the box including a pair of unmatched 2nd gears that howled like a tomcat until I ditched the "special" oil brew I had in the box and let them bed in properly until they were as quiet as a pussycat.

Got the std rims cut, widened to 8" and galv'ed and ran 245's on her as there's a 50 km beach close with treacherous sands where we spent many trips fishing and never got stuck.
Coming back on day trying to beat the tide a V8 Blazer zoomed past us only for us to catch him a while later as his Blazer was swamped in the surf and written off.
Fun times.  :)

I sold my S3 shorty and got rid of my S2 parts beast  >:D 186 was great, high speed final drive gearbox mod from 4WD in Box Hill. 2600RPM at 100 and 24MPG.

Wiring Mmmm 3 by 30A fuses and everything switched through the dash. High beam wire was fused on both sides before I rewired mine front to back  :palm:

This is funny because I had a series three. One fine morning I turned the key in the ignition and the entire loom went up in smoke. Not a big deal. I had a crank, crank started it and drove it to the mech using hand signals!  :-+. Thank god the engine was warm though or it’d had killed me cranking it.

Was a green one that someone had hand painted blue. Affectionately known as smokey because of the bottle of oil it burned once a month as well as the diesel.

Edit: according to DVLA it was declared SORN only in 2012!

Mine was a shorty too, a wellside pickup but as our three kids got bigger I ditched the cuddy cab and replaced it with a S2 SW hardtop and man did we pile some stuff into it.
The 1/2 tonne rear leaf springs were a joke as they rode like a bucking mule so after doing some homework I put 1 tonne leaves in the rear. One tonners I hear you say  :wtf: but the light load leaves were heavier and it ran on just two or three most of the time for a much less bony ride and less body roll. When it had a good load in it the ride was still better and it didn't feel like it was about to turn turtle on every boody corner but that was partly to do with the widened rims too....track width widened 3 inches.  ;D

I had the roof off mine for the last 3 or 4 years I had it for. People used to ask what happens when it rains? Well DUH you get wet  :-DD

I did also have another car too.

Drove mine from SW Vic to Brisbane and back a couple of times. 1400km in a day was the most I did, 2 days before I could walk properly as I am 6'2" so the cab was a little cramped.

Your's had the door at the rear right ?
I thought hard about getting one of those but opted for the S2 wagon top for the flip up rear and retained the tailgate. It better suited our needs.
We had a car but with a young family I would've been in the dog box anytime I needed to get away fishing or hunting and leave her without wheels so I needed a hack and this cheap S3 then buggerised to a bull bitch of allsorts fitted the bill quite well. Had it for many years until we upgraded our family wagon to a sedan and I kept the wagon as my hack. Landy went down the road and 10 years later I got another 4x4 that is my runner today. A Toymotor 3L TD Surf that suits my needs pretty well.....I can sure get a bundle of scopes in it.  ;D  And it doesn't leak !

Yeah a very bent door. It had the spare wheel hanging off it so every time you hit a bump it’d bend slightly. Once a year you had to take it off and bend it back again. You dodged that bullet!

Replaced it with a 90 TDi in the end which is still going after googling its reg.

Then sensible cars as I moved out of the countryside. Still think about buying a 110 these days :)
