@Specmaster... Yeah similar. I've put all the hungry stuff and the PC on the block connected straight to the wall. Even with everything full whack it'll only pull 750W across the bench which isn't a lot.

@Tautech... good point.

@Cerebus... they're about £7k a seat when new and worth entirely a crate of beer or £20 when someone wants to get rid of one ;)

Very punny.

I'm ashamed I didn't notice that  :-DD

Going for a whiz up the side of the pub on the way out was a regular occurrence here.

They had benches similar to those at the Phillips Lab in Cambridge auction, I wonder what they went for in the end? There's no way on earth that they are actually worth 7K each really, its the fact there's not much competition in the lab market I guess. All it is really is some metal sections cut and welded, a bench top and some trunking with sockets, couple of lights directly mounted onto the metal sections.

Close to the starting price. Difficult to shift and if you really need one you're usually in the financial situation to be able to afford a new one.

Same on this side of the pond. Auction houses have them for pennies on the dollar in lots of two to four at a time. If only I had the space.

I'm in the garage tomorrow looking some angle brackets so I can fix my function generator and LCR meter to underside of my shelf. I'd like to mount the TF930 up there too but I'm worried about spoiling the resale value of it later if I upgrade it.

I suppose I could pop into B&Q and buy some aluminium strip and make some brackets to sit under it and suspended it from the shelf and maybe even the TGP110 as well, then I put the SG63A in their place and the top of the PM3390B free to the air for improved cooling effect  :-+

Nah, fraid not, this is the sort of off the cuff banter that makes this group the place to be, fairly relaxed atmosphere and generally if people can be bothered to read back a couple of postings will see that it is all  related to general TEA talk anyway.

Testing Coils for inductance..

that old LARU is perfect, 0,1µH to 1H. The power cord was rotten, the instrument self typical Rohde+Schwarz of the 60s, still allready working.
It is a resonance tester.

For comparement i used the Tek 130, the test coil is a 270µH
130 is not a resonance tester.

Tek 130 is an interesting and very nice bit of kit. I built half a clone of one of them (must finish that) using slightly more modern tech. It uses a fixed and variable oscillator and measures the frequency difference by mixing, passing the sum product through a filter and then counting pulses. When you zero it rather than adjusting a bridge you’re synchronising the oscillators to zero beat.

Our weekend ebay fraudster is back, this time as bigmike13 and using a slightly different off-ebay payment route, but with the same items and photos as before.

When, if ever, will ebay get their act together to automatically alert themselves to this style of listing? If I can spot it every time, why can't they?
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

Yeah I've seen and reported that already. Tossers! Doesn't require a lot of clue from ebay.

Decided to shift some stuff today to make room for more toys, including the 465. At least there's an honest seller out there ;)

Edit: also bought another QRP labs QCX and enclosure. Woot.

You're selling one of your 465's? Too bad you aren't on this side of the pond. Planning on making any trips to NYC for your programming bid? If yes, I'm about 75 miles north of NYC and barring traffic I could be at JFK in under 2 hours.  ;D

Indeed I am. I’ve nursed it back to health and it needs to move on.

Unfortunately not heading out there any time soon. Wouldn’t mind a trip out there however :)
