I think I've ascended to another level of TEA. I'm now finding random op-amps right outside my door. I'm taking it to be manna from the electronics gods.

Or revenge and they’re hoping you’re going to stand on them :)

OFF TOPIC but given the prominence and history of the Titanic I thought this short video of the worlds largest scale model of her was interesting enough to share.

The model (built in Granada, Spain) includes the Titanic and Southampton dock. It's the world's largest, the ship is 12 meters long, 4.5 meters wide and 3 meters high. Weighs 600 kilos, it's built to scale 1:30 and recreated in 3D the different areas of the ship.

my sunday tea time was just stolen.

damn asta was scratchin' at the back door.  took her out and spotted 2 bagworm cocoons on the 6 ft tall green giant arborvitaes in the back yard.  made the mistake of showing them to swmbo.  she freaked out.  but it was an easy thing to fix.  grab a sharp utility knife, cut the silk thread that holds them to the branch....and badda bing.  problem solved.

UNTIL swmbo called barb across the street who has 12 ft tall specimens of the same tree.  no problem she says...…"you might have one or two in your trees.........i'll send the freq over to take care of them too".

what?

its 95 degrees out with 100% humidity. the sun ate a hole in the back of my bald 63 year old head for an hour while teetering on a wobbly old wooden step ladder and picking these ugly bastards off 18 trees!  finished to the rumbling of thunder on the horizon.

guess its my good deed for the week.

if you let these things stay, hundreds of little worms hatch out of each coccon in spring and strip the trees bare.

sure hope i did not miss any.

Ooh bagworms. Sod that.

We don’t get them but we get processionary moths here. Being the sick bastard I am, when they’re all marching in convoy as catapillers, I nudge the front one around to join the back one and they go around in circles until they die.

I stood on an ECC82 when I was a kid. Blood all over my nans carpet. She was not pleased.

Nice to see a proper op amp :)

Cool stuff.

Not as cool as what I saw in Ali the other day https://m.alibaba.com/product/740929092/2017-NEW-DESIGN-Giant-Inflatable-Water.html?spm=a2706.amp_showroom

I'll make double-damned sure the postman brings you some of my pre-made bacon so you can lick that while you hole up at the bench and lick your wounds.  :-DD

nope.....fried bagworms are not on my menu.

and believe it or not.   barb across the street said to save the bagworms so she can show her "tree guy".

if she has a "tree guy" what is my sweaty ass doing up on the ladder?

When I come upon tent caterpillar residences (what we get here in the Northeast), I go quick and dirty and follow the 'kill it with fire' policy with the aid of my little yellow friend shown here.  It takes only seconds to send them off to bug heaven that way, no picking or pruning needed - a squeeze of the red button and a momentary sweep, and buh-bye.

This, alas, is one of the core miseries of having a SWMBO... they are always happy to prostitute your genius to the rest of their femme-herd to save them a few shekels... their logic being that since they so wisely saved them that money, they can all go out and get their nails done/shop for handbags/eat ice cream together.

The upside is that while they're gone doing that all afternoon, we can sit on the living room couch in our underwear; putting our bare feet up on the coffee table while we watch rude, crude, ignorant and socially unacceptable shit on the TV with impunity while we nibble on leftover bacon & biscuits or roast beast that THEY made earlier.

Fair dinkum, sez I.  :-DD

Be glad they have legs.

I've just put some legs back on a no-doubt-unobtanium HP ceramic IC in a5328 frequency counter. It is a nice ceramic IC with legs made from gold plate over rust.

yea.....guess they do all that stuff.

but they do smell good.

and it is unlikely they will leave a transmission in the bathtub. (now who did that?)

And don't forget the part about "nibbling on leftover bacon & biscuits or roast beast that THEY made earlier"... it's important. I meant to but it got lost in the edit; had to go back & put it in.  :palm:

In my defense, I never put a transmission in the pool like one of my exes (along with the rest of the car)... and the transmission in the tub WAS for my wife's car... at least the SECOND time.  :-DD

And clearly, I'm not the first to fall prey to grrl fumes and a well-swung tail; if we didn't, there'd be nobody to teach our kids how to cuss, spit & piss properly.  >:D

When I was a senior in high school, a friend of mine had my mother convinced that we had used the dishwasher (which she knew had a leak, and which had not been used in years) to clean the innards of the TH-400 transmission from my '69 Catalina.  (In fact, we'd cleaned them in the sink and simply rested them on the dishwasher to dry - it was one of the old roll-around ones that had a retractable hose that clipped onto the faucet; we'd pulled the dishwasher out into the middle of the kitchen when we ran out of space on the table.)

She got home from work to find us in the kitchen with freshly washed automatic transmission parts spread out on paper towels covering every flat surface in sight.  She asked why the dishwasher was out, and Phil immediately said "we used it to wash these parts!!", and of course she believed him.
:palm:

I'm not sure if I ever really convinced her that we had in fact done them by hand in the sink...

Whenever my lady visits I try to explain to her what I've been doing in ref to TEA. She looks at me and says she'll never understand what all this stuff is and even after you explain it I still won't understand. Then she says "I'm glad you enjoy playing with this stuff because then I know you're not out playing with other women."  :-DD

Yep....she's a keeper!  :-+
Hmm that doesn't quiet compute, but leave her in that ignorent bliss. There are a growing number of women in electronics these days and we have some among our forum members, some of whom are TEA members [emoji6]

When you know where she's been in her life and where she is today it makes perfect sense. I'm not going to go into details.....you'll just have to trust me.

I welcome women into our profession. The more the merrier including TEA.  :-+

We have a few female techs at work. But their numbers seem to have decreased over the years.

And then we have this.....tech named "Grace" suddenly declared that her/his name is now "Gray". Is taking male hormones and will now use the Men's restroom with management's blessing. We were like  :wtf: and there isn't a damn thing we can do about it.

Hell yeah  :-+
Girls into 'tronics are a special bunch and really somewhat rare......well over here anyways.  :(

:o  :scared:
Wouldn't that want you to fish out the HV PSU and attempt polarity reversal ?  >:D  :-DD

nope.....fried bagworms are not on my menu.

and believe it or not.   barb across the street said to save the bagworms so she can show her "tree guy".

if she has a "tree guy" what is my sweaty ass doing up on the ladder?

is it me, or is something wrong here?
What's wrong is that you apparently can't say no, or at least lack the ability to come up with a decent excuse. ;D

Ok had another "I'll be screwed if I'm paying for something" moment and made another piece of test gear. It's Sunday so this is a "was made from crap lying around" project.  I need an antenna analyser as I can't take my TDS210 and DG1022Z out without an inverter and massive car battery which is just stupid.

VU2ESE knocked up a design called a sweeperino which is an arduino, synthesizer and power meter that allows you to fart a signal out and then measure returned power. Basically a scalar network analyser, with some caveats but meh. I happen to have the wrong synthesizer IC dev board lying around, an Si5351, a arduino pro mini, a shitty LCR meter I didn't like and a power meter I built ages ago as a prototype for another one. So frankensweeper it is.

Early win... arduino, LCD and synthesizer IC. The synthesizer IC, the Si5351 is pretty damn cool and will quite happily hit 200MHz. I used it for a bit as a 2m CW transmitter on 144MHz by plugging in an antenna directly into it and stepping frequency and walking around the house excitedly jumping around making whooping noises as it worked. Then I limped down the road and it was still readable after about 500m. Then my foot hurt so I went back home. I might use one with an LPF and simple PA to build a little morse beacon. Really cool little IC and costs bugger all. LCD salvaged from LCR meter (which was a piece of shite if there ever was one). New hello world (deadpool 2 reference)...

Further down the line it got the power sensor (recycled), a control pot and a 7805 so I can run it off a 12v SLA or an AA pack:

I think it took an hour to rip out all the shite code, fix the frequency conversion stuff, wire in the Si5351 library (properly) and calibrate the frequency. I still haven't done the power calibration as it's too late and I'm too tired now but it mostly works! Showing (nearly) a 6dB loss on the RLB which is correct as it's also known as a 6dB hybrid. Phew...

Now the only dick about it is as it's a clock gen IC rather than a DDS with niceties such as aliasing filters, it has harmonic spurs so you have to think carefully about what it's telling you. It's good enough to use with the RLB to tune up an antenna though.

Edit: credit to VU2ESE (Farhan of bitx and hfsignals fame) for the basic idea and half of the code.
