That philips looks interesting, if it wasn't for the fact that I'm actually trying to give myself some space to work in, I'd have gone for that, I was after one like for so long, but I've entered the digital age now and some are saying what took me so long....

More likely a heart attack from lifting all those boat anchors, especially the old black Hartley ones, they really were boat anchors and some. Transformers in those were oil filled and they were everywhere in them. I had one once and it never made it up the stairs in my house for fear it come down a lot bloody quicker then it went up, through the floor basically

I had a run in with some oil filled transformers once. My grandfather was into various electrical things back in the 1960s/1970s. He had no idea what he was doing really however he amassed a large collection of transformers, some of which were oil filled. When he started to get frail in the early 1980s they just rotted in his cellar. Eventually the oil came out and soaked through the wooden crates they were stacked in. This mixed with the electrolyte out of all the electrolytic capacitors which had been extracted and the weird old tins of rotting food and turned into this jelly like substance that was all over the bottom of the cellar. It was a like a flipping toxic ice rink in there.

On those Hartley scopes, it was part of the tropicalisation that they did for the military specs, luckily the one I had wasn't leaking but I have seen some that did, and the stench of that oil, blew your head off.

Yeah it's nasty stuff as well. We had to get someone to come and clean it out and they did it with white suits, respirators and lots of industrial chemicals.

He actually left me the stuff in his will but it had to go in a skip.

Funny thing is though, I thought that the oil would have prevented the transformers from rusting and thus not leaked, but then the brain cell kicks in with the realisation that the oil was inside, rust was outside and sooner or later the two would meet

Thing is, it's not just transformer oil in some transformers but PCB and that's nasty stuff !

Fortunately I was able to make an adjustment quickly enough to prevent completely par-boiled juevos; we're still a little tender, but we'll live.

That philips looks interesting, if it wasn't for the fact that I'm actually trying to give myself some space to work in, I'd have gone for that, I was after one like for so long, but I've entered the digital age now and some are saying what took me so long.... 

There was one of those Philips ones at work exactly the same as the one on ebay, my co-workers liked it because of the auto button, unfortunately of wasn't very reliable as someone told me you had to repeatedly press the power to get it to work, unsurprisingly it died about 10 years ago from a PSU short circuit. 
After that they would only use the Fluke Fisher Price 123 for the same reasons. I was an apprentice at the time so had to actually learn how to use an analogue scope (20MHz Leader), which was much more useful as I now have many myself.

The one on ebay also seems to have at least two broken off controls, so unless they are a standard part whoever buys it will probably need a donor scope.

Received in good shape and as advertised. The "B" trigger switch is bent. Damage to the DM44. Handle on case missing. It powers up. There is considerable ripple on the traces. The focus does not work at all. And the CRT bias is turned up way too high. All fixable. So far thumbs up! 

Look at all the goodies that came in the scope bag. This 465B was originally owned by Iowa State University. Gotta go get some sleep...have to work tonight. Looks like an interesting project ahead. 

w00t! That's the kind of fleaBay score we hear tell of from the old-timers and dream about making!
