I stumbled on this multimeter, which at first sight looked like a toy meter given the funny design and colors.

However the specs seem to indicate some unique and patented features :)

- Patented digital non-contact AC voltage (NCVD) and current detector (NCCD)
- Remote display and control function
- Single or multi user channel selectable
- Patented fused test leads

Some guy in Norway is selling a new unit for only 1 Norwegian crown :)

That's how I found the multimeter in the first place. I found it on a Norwegian auction site, and did a Google search on the image, to find more information about the unit and the manufacturer =)

Almost guaranteed they have only design patents on their implementation of current and voltage detection. I doubt this company discovered a new way of measuring those quantities.

This meter has a familiar vibe to it:

Maybe they should have used that robot for the HitchBOT experiment, the robot that needs to get all the way from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Victoria, BC, depending on the kindness and curiosity of strangers during his 6000 km hitchhiking journey :)

I suspect it's a gimmick feature not all that useful. A 'digital' non-contact measurement just means it can detect no-voltage Vs some unknown amount of voltage. That's not a measurement, it's a safety function.

Unsuccessfully. Apparently curiosity outweighed kindness.

He successfully completed his trip across Canada (and some European countries including Germany) - this time, he was trying to get across the US.  Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful  :(

The robot should have used his patented digital non-contact AC voltage (NCVD) and current detector (NCCD) to detect suspicious people in the vicinity :)

Anyhow, it seems that this toy multimeter actually does the same and more than the Mooshimeter.
Maybe a valid alternative! You get wireless access and a display extra for free :)

Plus the readings can be read from different locations at the same time.
This is not supported AFAIK in the Mooshimeter. Maybe there is a valid use case for this though!

Mooshimeter can do simultaneous current and voltage logging.
This is why I bought one. I couldn’t find a logging DMM that could do that for a reasonable price.
A bit of a particular use case I suppose.

Also, I cannot find the logging frequency/interval specs for this one.
Mooshimeter, AFAIK is both channels at 8kHz.
I approach the thinking of all of my posts using AI in the first instance. (Awkward Irregularity)
