GK101 arbitrary waveform generator
« on: November 26, 2014, 09:20:25 pm »
Hi,

Has anyone used one of these cheap arbitrary waveform generator?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GK101-10MHz-Function-Arbitrary-Waveform-Generator-Touch-screen-/151374476412?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item233e9f347c

If so, are they useful?

Thanks

Yes - I think that there are at least two forum users who have this one or something very similar.  I stumbled across the thread last week while searching for something else - but now I need to find it for you, I can't!

edit and sorry - that's why I can't find it  :palm: - it wasn't the same model - it was a different one that I remembered because of its similar extruded aluminium case

At $150 including shipping, I wouldn't consider it cheap. No AM/FM modulation, pretty much an unknown as for software/hardware capabilities.

I said "cheap" because I saw it at $99 and free shipping on ebay, but the question was if someone has any experience with this particular model.

The one that Richard_L says in his post is similar, but what caught my attention about this was that is smaller and have touch screen. The softwate that is used to generate the arbitrary wave form seems to be one from Agilent (as I could find searching in the web)

I found a bit more information about it here:

I purchased this model GK101.  It's excellent for a handheld DDS function generator.  The 3" color screen with touch is very responsive even with a fingertip and sharp, clean looking.  I downloaded the free version of Agilent and libraries for use with this device.  Hand drawn arbitrary waveforms you can upload to the device in USB Disk mode.  It is very well made and will do 10 MHz Sine/Square.

Hi, yes... I bought one just a couple of days ago. Although its small size, it has very good features for the price. As you said, is excellent as a handheld function generator.
You can find the last firmware in www.eeschool.org (the web page is in chinese, but there is also a copy at http://wiki.iteadstudio.com/IDSG101#How_to_Upgrade_Firmware)

You can find here review in russian http://cxem.net/review/review15.php
What do you think guys which cheap generator is better that GK101 or MHS-2300A, because I want to buy one of them. I didn't like of overshoot of square waveform of GK101. You can see here from Russian review

Can someone to show me how is look the square waveform on MHS-2300A?
I wonder which one of the two generators to buy. Also Russians says that usable working frequency is about 100-200Khz. Above these frequencies the signal is very distorted and noisy.

I have tried some waveforms and sine is perfectly usable till 10 MHz as specified. The square one is usable till about 8 Mhz, then it become a little distorted.
The other ones are prefectly usable till 1 MHz.

I do not have a MHS-2300A, but which one is better it depends on what do you want it for... MHS-2300A has 2 channel, GK101 just 1, GK101 is smaller and has a touch screen interface that is really easy and intuitive to use...

There's a new firmware for the device, you can find it at:
http://www.eeschool.org/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=1884&extra=page%3D1

The page is in chinese but google translator can do magic  ;D

If you search IDSG101 on the site the correct page with the review will reload (Top right corner). Still need to translate though to read the review.

I corrected above link and now is working.
i figured that the GK101 have more memory vs MHS-2300. 32k vs 1k. So if you need to use often time custom waveform the GK101 is better investment for more complex generated signals over MHS-2300.

Also i find good info in English about that AWG here: http://wiki.iteadstudio.com/IDSG101
Also there are links to latest firmware of generator.

Hi, could somebody provide waveforms and system folders. I removed it from my dss accidentally and now it doesn't boot with error code 2. Maybe there is some instruction how to calibrate this dss.
