Uni-T 5URG9 Bench Multimeter
« on: January 18, 2018, 08:40:51 pm »
Hello.

Looking to get a new bench multimeter to the lab, and came across this:

https://www.grainger.com/product/GRAINGER-APPROVED-Bench-Digital-Multimeter-5URG9.

I know people have reviewed the Uni-T UT805A, but I have not seen any other info for the 5URG9. Has anybody had experience witht his one? Is it just a refreshed version of the UT805A?

Thank you.

If you scroll down the page, there is a listing for an alternate product that is a sched 40 dielectric nipple.  How would you connect that to your DUT? :-DD

Agree with 001.

Looks like a Uni-T 804 with some extra strength.

Yup. Went with a BK Precision one; still funny (and a little bit concerning) to see it on a site like Grainger.

I recently noticed that Maplin have cut all ties with UNI-T ,
their products are no longer to be found in Maplin stores.
For a good few years Uni-t was the most popular brand of DVM they sold .
Im looking for a new meter myself , I am very tempted by Daves latest meter ,other hand I have a Fluke 8000a that needs new 7 segment leds , a resistor network and maybe a led driver ic, all off the shelf parts but some detective work would be required to find the right ones.

Lots of choice out there thats for sure ,I work on tube gear mostly so .01 of a volt @ 400 volts HT is way more precision than I require .
I have a wavetek handheld for almost 20 years now , on a few ocassions I've  taken the range switch apart ,cleaned and retensioned the contacts ,still works great. Somehow I never even blew a fuse on it despite sparks and molten metal flying off the probes on several ocassions.

I was once, for about half a day the owner of a fluke 123 scopemeter ,a king among meters ,had a few drinks on the way home from the workshop to celebrate getting it at a knockdown price ,ended up having to catch a cab home later ,had to stop the cab on the way to get cash from the hole in the wall ,hole in the wall was out of service ,cab driver ended up doing a runner with the scope ,end of.  :palm:

Honestly, you live in US with all the good surplus labgrade DMMs and cheap shipping and you want to buy such crap? Do things with style and buy an used HP, Fluke or Keithley for the same price or less....
