Interesting!
What would be a nice test is to sweep the frequency to see how flat (or not) the sensitivity is.

I was more interested in what the sensitivity is at 2.4GHz (the maximum frequency).

I just received mine and did some tests on the sensitivity (voltages in RMS) according to my RF generator:
100MHz  70mV (-10dBm)
2GHz     70mV (-10dBm)
2.5GHz  130mV (-4.7dBm)

Over 2.5GHz the sensitivity falls off sharply. There is also between 1 and 2dB loss in the cable I used at 2.5GHz so the sensitivity at high frequencies is actually slightly better than shown above.

Got one myself..after a fair warm up found it drifted.
Replaced the (crappy) thermal Xtal setup with an OCXO..
..and calibrated THAT with a GPSDO ('cause I'm anal?!)  :-+

Emailed the mfr. for a schematic & they were very good about emailing the osc. section back to me

Any chance you can supply some photos, and instructions on how you did that, as I interested in attempting a similar modification on my VC3165.

Or on how to adjust its calibration....

 I have just got myself a 10 MHz Rubidium Freq Standard unit (FE-5680A), and it is showing that my Freq. Counter's calibration is out slightly (i.e. it is reading 10.000020 MHz, instead of 10.000000 MHz), and I would like to improve it.

What are the 2 big units underneath the Victor? This seems very expensive equipment!
So you have these 2 professional units, and still you need a Victor?
Did you loan them, or was the photo taken at your company? =)

Is it possible that this Victor VC3165 is also rebranded under Velleman DVM13MFC2?

I read that it performs very well on high frequencies, but not so good on low frequencies.

Which company is the original manufacturer? Is it really Victor? Because these units are OEM.

Maybe you can suggest your design improvement to them, and together make a better frequency meter. They could give you some "Victor" company shares in turn :)

Does anyone know what the missing components on the left hand-side of the main board, were meant to do?

Would we get extra functions/channels if we fitted the missing components??

@Teledog, can you post the information that you have? I'm interested in the details around the oscillator circuit to wire in a more accurate oscillator.
