I bought my SDS1104X-E from Saelig, and the manufacturing date on the box was just a couple of weeks earlier. I feel pretty certain their stock turns over very quickly, and you would be getting a “fresh” scope, at a price that likely can’t be beat. Also, this scope has been out for quite a while, and any early hardware bugs (if there were ever any) should have been revised out long since.
Awesome, thanks for that. It quells the fear of getting a potential 4-6+ month old scope that's been sitting on the shelf.
Yeah, black friday/cyber monday are coming, so maybe just look around for places that offer it and just bite if somewhere puts on a decent sale. I know Saelig has a sale going, but I don't remember if the 1104X-E is on the list.
From the looks of Saelig's site, it doesn't look like the 1104X is included in the sale :/
buy from the cheapest place you can, and upgrade the firmware yourself, and you have the same scope as the higher-priced "newer" model you think you're purchasing from someone else.
That'd be ideal, however, most products -- especially tech -- go through hardware revisions after they're first released, which firmware updates won't touch. It's never typically anything drastic, as the base function of the product will (or should) stay the same, but there are frequently parts that are revised, updated, things made more efficient, kinks/bugs/inefficiencies ironed out, etc.
Someone on another thread even mentioned that the recent models of the 1104X apparently have a new/different fan which is now quieter than the original, which some complained about being loud.
It's why I usually don't jump on new tech when it first comes out, as the first year buyers more or less end up being the manufacturer's unwitting beta testers!
