XJW01 LCR Meter Evolution!
« on: January 16, 2017, 09:02:17 am »

Hi!

The purpose of this thread is to document as fully as I possibly can, in English, the evolution of the XJW01 Chinese LCR Meter, highlighting all the changes and revisions with better (and hopefully clearer!) documentation!

It is my intention to translate, as best as I can, the original source code, circuit-diagrams and PCB layouts into clear English that can be understood by anyone here!

The original version was made using a four-digit 0.56" multiplexed common-cathode LED display and individual LED indicators labelled to show unit/range, on PCB rev 2.0., whilst the LCD version was first designed to use V2.0 PCB and modified code before a purpose-made LCD version was designed, v3.0.

Hope this will assist other members interested in this equipment - I have one of the kits on order myself!

The version attached is the Original Chinese design as it began.

Chris Williams

PS!

The Data Sheet for the MCU is enormous - it runs to 439 pages (!!!)

It's an enigma that's what it is!! This thing's not fixed because it doesn't want to be fixed!!

I'm trying to follow his post with google translate,  not able to find where and how to order it

They even talked about an stm32 lcr based with an dds clock generator who could go at 100khz or even at 300khz ???

That 100kHz version would interest me as well!
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

I already got this one for a couple of years but it only goes to 1kHz.
If you search for 'auto LCR' you'll find many one Ebay.

Watch out, it exists a second thread for that.
How about migrating these two to one?

I'm trying to document this LCR Bridge as well. Wouldn't it be nice to have a little good documented User Manual?

The word document in the zip file linked by the original poster is not in English despite being labeled as such.   I translated it using an online site.  It seems to contain some design notes but is not really a manual of any sort and refers to an early version of this LCR meter.   I bought a later version (v3.0 on the circuit board) as a kit on Banggood.   It came with ZERO documentation and a lot of parts.  The main PCB is fully stuffed and presumably tested/calibrated but the remainder of the components are for you to figure out on your own.   I think I've figured everything out from some pictures floating around on the net of the unit fully assembled except for one thing.   A little bag of six 1/4W metal film resistors came with the unit.  Values are 40, 3k, 1K, 10K x2 and 100K.   I don't know where to install them.   The only clue is that some of the pictures of assembled units show resistors on or near the rear of the BNC connectors.   But the photos are very blurry and I can't tell the values or even what points they are soldered across.   Anyone got one of these units that can tell me about these resistors.

The resistors are suitable for the recalibration procedure.
This part was left by my own translation afford and has still to be done.
But nevertheless you are invited to have a look at my site: http://zockertown.de/s9y/index.php?/archives/1672-LCR-Auto-Meter-Digital-Bridge-XJW01.html

Still available on Ebay under 100$ usd   but the Test signal frequency:100Hz, 1kHz, 7.8kHz,  a  7.8khz ???  who needs that ??? at least 10khz would be nice ...  tried to contact the developer  with no success. He should evolve his project a little more.

The one who had potential was the stm32 version of it,  who could do 100khz test frequency,  incomplete threads,  no final schematics and source code ??? and was a pain to translate, damn bbs forums, read all pages with no final answers

We had to insert codes or request ones, all i wanted is a final product to buy before i've bought my Fluke PM6304

There is one worth mentioning :  http://www.ebay.com/itm/262959398879?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:VRI&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2661           a software based one with very good specs, but i would love a stand alone version

If i had 300$ to spend right now, it would be this one ...  EDIT  NOW AT 119$

Wow, that's a long document. I translated its first chapter, and I don't think I will have time to translate all 36 pages.
If you are interested in some part of the document, please let me know and I can translate that particular part for you.

Thank you blueskull for it, very appreciated

This would be very interesting: 6. Calibration guide

I ended up putting the meter together yesterday and it worked fine except I got the header to the keypad backwards.  The silkscreen clearly indicates to put the key down, but it needs to be in the up position for the keypad to work.   I added some ferrite cores on the power and short coax leads to the front panel.  Unit seems to work well.   Three frequencies are available; 100Hz, 1kHz and 7.8KHz.   I measured a few items and got agreement well under 1%.   Overall I can't complain too much about the hardware at this price point.  The documentation however is a challenge to be sure.

Thanx a lot, I will look into it later and translate it in German and try it out myself.

I have one of these meters, not the 2017 version though, and I have to say that the biggest problem is the very poor documentation and the other niggle with it is that it is not really suitable for testing anything while still in situ, even with one leg unsoldered, the clips are way to big for that. Been thinking about making up a set of leads to go from the croc clips to to the smaller clip on clamp type for that purpose.

For the money you not find a more accurate meter and as far as I have seen and judging from others with access to far more upmarket and real laboratory grade equipment, the accuracy really is almost spot on as well.

Glad to see that the manual is being translated into proper english so that we can get some serious use from this otherwise excellent little LCR meter.

Thanks for posting the files.
Here is the machine-translated docs of 3.0 version.
