FLIR decal/sticker sheets ?
« on: March 20, 2019, 02:04:29 pm »
An unusual question for FLIR camera owners.

I have seen some FLIR camera kits that come with a nice sheet of FLIR stickers/decals. Does anyone have such a sheet of stickers that they want to sell to me please ? More than one sheet would be great.

I thought of writing to FLIR but I am unsure whether they have advertising stickers etc available.

Best I can offer, I'm afraid...

Thanks )

I have contacted a FLIR and asked about decal/sticker availability. The UK representative for Marketing has already replied asking how he can help :)

I had a quick play with a Brother P-touch labelling machine with 1" high labels, blue-on-white tape. It's not the proper FLIR colour but shows some sort of promise. Given a little more time and enthusiasm I'm sure I'd be able to smooth the jaggy edges of the letters but I'm suffering from severe CBA syndrome...

With a bit of effort and two or three tape layers where the top one(s) are on transparent background it's possible to make some very impressive two or three-colour labels, but it's very labour-intensive and not worth doing for anything other than one-offs.

Hi Ultrapurple,

Thank you :)

I used my Brother P-Touch laminated label printer to create some 1” wide decals for my NEC AVIO camera. They came out really well with no visible stepping on the diagonals. I created the lettering myself using a combination of a downloaded NEC logo and a suitable font for the cameras model details. It looks really good in black on white background. Those laminated label makers are excellent bits of kit. I have a few of them ! I personally like the Brother models and tapes but have not tried other manufacturers products. I got a great deal on the 1/2” and 1” models a few years back 🙂

On the FLIR decal front..... I contacted FLIR UK and even though they tried to help me, they could not. They do not hold advertising stickers or similar. I was surprised to hear that as ‘bumper stickers’ are normally available from manufacturers at trade fairs etc. FLIR UK have nothing like that.  I found a vinyl decal manufacturer on eBay who produces all manner of manufacturers logos and FLIR is included. I have ordered and received several different sizes if Decal and they are excellent quality. They are decals with no background though. The background is whatever colour the application substrate is.  That is to say they are like trim decals with a removable back and front sheet that leaves just the decal letters etc on the substrate. They are reasonably priced considering they come from the USA to the UK. The letters colour may be selected and the ones applicable to the FLIR logo are White, Black and Blue. I purchased White for application on black Pelicases and Blue for other applications. The Blue colour from the decal company matches the official FLIR colour well :) The light blue is too light I think but I have not purchased it to find out.

I attach pictures from the Decal supplier plus my two Brother PC linked printer models.I bought two of each as they were being virtually given away in a discounted sale that even included a rebate through Brother ! I think they cost me around £15 each after the rebate ! I have accumulated plenty of the Brother TZ tapes as well. I have not tried compatible tapes yet.

Ir.ukrm,

Yes those are what I had seen on units for sale via eBay and why I asked in this post if anyone had them and was willing to sell them to me. Sadly no one responded. They seem to have been provided in some kits and not others. None of my Ex series cameras came with the sticker sheets. I wrote to FLIR in the hope of buying the sheets from them but was put in contact with the marketing team who sadly could not help me.

@Fraser It looks like that decal supplier is a good one to know - they can probably produce anything one is likely to need.

My P-Touch is the D600, which has a QWERTY keyboard and USB PC connection. I used the PC label designer to run off the FLIR label. Like you, I have a goodly collection of tapes but almost all of mine are 'compatible' rather than Brother originals. They seem to work very well indeed and are significantly cheaper than the OEM tapes.

For day-to-day stuff I use an extremely elderly P-Touch D75 and 12mm black-on-white tapes. It's easy to use and the tapes are good (and cheap), though you're very limited in message length and there's very little flexibility and no connectivity.

<edit> After seeing the genuine decals, I had a quick further play. Now all I need to do is work out how to make nice rounded edges...

My wife has baby clothes printing bussiness (heat transfer) but also has regular vinyl Oracal 751 and 641 foil which is used for signs and boats...
She uses it to make car stickers (Baby in car...), wall art etc...

If somebody needs a custom sticker just send me a pdf or svg or whatever best format you have and when I'll find some time I will send you back finished sticker.
But you will have to cover shipping and a few $$$ extra for my effort (I will let you decide how much). :P

Ultrapurple,

I found some very nice corner cutters that are used in card making. Just search for “corner cutter” on eBay and you will find many at great prices, I paid for some more deluxe unit’s with different corner radii

They work brilliantly on TZ tapes  :-+

Pictures of some of the available types attached.

My corner cutters. I have a pair with large and small corner radii. The brand of the units looks to be "XP". They work very well. I have cut one of my old business cards to show the different corner cuts.

I just purchased a cheap R4 (4mm) corner cutter to add to my R5 and larger cutter radius. It cost £4 delivered from a UK source. There ate heavier duty corner cutters designed for Plastic cutting but they are around £12 each and a plier design. One advert stated that the radius used on credit cards is R3 (3mm).

My latest order of FLIR Decals from the USA arrived today. This is the smallest size they advertise on eBay. Remember these are decals that have no background and are vinyl characters that use the substrate to which they are applied for the background colour.
I needed some FLIR stickers with a solid white or black background colour, hence why I was searching for the FLIR decal sheets.
The cutting mat in the pictures has 1cm squares as a size reference. The decals come with some helpful application instructions.

Just a little bit bigger than our label printers can manage, then...

There are three sizes shown as available. I now have all three :)

Dimensions of decals :

Small - 5.5” x 2.0”

Medium - 7.5” x 2.5”

Large - 11.0” x 3.75”

I just checked the small decal dimensions with a ruler. The dimensions are the actual decal extents and not the backing paper size. i.e. the FLIR logo is 2.0” high and the whole length of the decal characters is 5.5”
