For others out there interested, you're better off waiting another month or two for the new Exx range cameras to become more widely available - should drop the prices.

You can also get an E30 for around £1000 or less! Which can of course, be modified :)

I can definitely agree that the E30 might be even a better offer for around £1000, but some models lack the Bluetooth/WiFi board. (like mine: upgraded to E60bx+ specs, no no Bluetooth/Wifi)
Particulary considering the Flir Tools App for Android that allows a nice cable free live picture with wifi.

But I don't thing the prices for the Exx is coming any more down because of the new, higher range, Exx models. They don't replace the current Exx models, but more closing the (prie) gap to the T6XX Series.

Another indicator might be that even the C2 price seems to rather going up although the C3 is already available.

The E4 price also seems rather constant showing no tendency to be reduced yet.

Beside that, the GBP is likely to loose more of its value...

In summary: Many things to consider. :-)

Another Flir E30bx (upgradable to E60) offered for £1200 in the UK, open to offers, so might be worth a try around £1000.

Already tried. He has already been offered more.

It is a bx model so limited temperature capability. Not sure whether this can be increased.

Now to get reading about upgrading the camera and maybe getting the Wi-Fi running (if fitted) No worries if it is not though.

The camera was bought in December 2014 so is reasonably recent. I wanted an Exx in great condition as some have seen hard service in industry, building sites and Ex-lease. This one fits the bill nicely.

I already own FLIR Researcher so this camera will be great to use with that software  :-+

Happy days  ;D

Thanks Joe-c  :)

I am just trying to work out which generation Exx camera I have bought. From what I can see there are at least 3 generations of Exx camera.

It was actually this thread that 'forced my hand' as I felt sure someone would buy it from this forum. The camera condition is excellent and on this forum we know how to upgrade it  ;)

I believe my camera is a 2nd generation camera as it has the 2MP visible light camera and LED torch present and active. The keypad navigation pad also looks like separate direction buttons rather than a single pad found on the 1st Gen and 3rd Gen units. All this is from looking at pictures though. Mine has white button legends as well. Some have back-lit blue buttons.

I attach a picture of my new 'baby'  ;D

With a (hopefully) 60fps refresh rate and full 320x240 resolution plus the ability to record video, I think this will become my favourite camera. I was considering buying a Thermal Expert TE-Q1+ but the rolling shutter effect on video recordings and low frame rate on anything but the latest phones put me off.

I will be selling some of my thermal cameras on ebay to finance the purchase of this lovely Exx series camera so I will hopefully keep the bank balance in the black  ;D

Bad news .... E30BX seller is trying to wriggle out of the sale. Not an honourable action IMHO and I have advised him of such.

Bloody eBay, Honourable sellers can be rare these days :(

Yep sale has gone bad. He says he sold the camera to someone else 'off eBay'. The seller appears to be dishonourable.

A bit silly really as his 'one man' thermal survey company in the Isle of Man is vulnerable to negative comment on social media. He used his company web address as his PayPal name !

eBay have no effective response to this sort of situation and just recommended very negative feedback.

It has been said that when pursuing revenge, dig two graves. I shall not pursue this chap, as I am not that kind of person?

Life goes on

So sorry to hear that Fraser. :-(

I was recommending the E30 offer, because I found my upgraded E30 one of the best available TICs on the market for around £1000.

Recently I was able to "fill" my E30 box with the second external lens (15 degrees) that I managed to buy for a good price in the US.

My set is quite complete now:

E30 upgraded to E60 (without Wifi/Bluetooth)
3 batteries
charging station
45 degrees Flir lens
15 degrees Flir lens
tripod mount
tools+ license

Hope you have better luck next time. I'll let you know if I am gonna sell my set when I want to go for something else. :-)

Cheers
Hikanio

Ah that's bad luck.

Some people are foul to deal with and spoil it for anyone who tries to be fair, I've had a couple of purchases go bad like that too when a seller has been offered more money.

Add them to the sh*t list and move on (still leaves me annoyed for a while though)

It just got worse.... the seller wrote an apology to me and is actually OK. A local guy paid him cash at the front door and he could not resist. I actually feel sorry for Trevor. Why ? Well he sold his E30bx that can be upgraded to E60bx spec and has bought an i3 TE-Q1....... for professional building survey work !

Now the TE-Q1 has its place, but I would not base my livelihood on it ! I have responded to the seller with my sympathetic and kind head on. He has made a whopper of a mistake in my personal opinion. He did not realise that his E30bx is all that he needed once upgraded to its full potential He just wanted  higher resolution and video recording. He could have had both and 60fps video instead of crappy <9fps.

Such is life. I really feel sorry for the poor chap. I am not leaving negative feedback. I do not have the heart to do so.

I have enough cameras already but I really fancied the E60 spec for my Hedgehog conservation work....... good resolution, light weight, ergonomic and 60fps video..... mmmmmm.

Now trying to assist the seller in sourcing a decent thermal camera for his survey business. Looking at the U5855a as a possibility for him. Still a good deal from Keysight factory outlet on them.

I hope I get my reward in Heaven :)

What type of business? If he wants to do building surveys it needs to be 320x240!

He is now hunting for another E30 or E40 to upgrade.

I thought the UK authorities requirement for building surveys was a minimum 160x120 resolution ? Has that changed ? Maybe my memory is just failing me.

Most standards now dictate 320x240 (BS EN 13187) - for electrical work, it differs

Might also be interested, as i could use the better lens on the Exx compared to the Ex series.
I am right that the bx models cannot measure above 120°C, and this cannot be modified? I would need to go up to at least 200°C.

Now that the new E4 dont seem to be upgradeable at all, it might be possible to sell a first gen E4 at quite a good price...

The Exx bx models are limited in maximum temperature. This can be changed to the full temperature range of the Exx model. The problem is that the calibration of a bx model does not include the 2nd range so the calibration will be way off on range 2.

I suggest a non bx model will best suit your needs.

Just wondering what temperature the E30 was calibrated up to, as its supposed to be limited to 350°C (would be enough for me) while E40+ are 650°C. After all, they have to calibrate the higher range, just wondering if they really saved that little extra effort to go up to 650...

Thermal camera Microbolometers have different bias voltages applied to the pixels to provide different ranges. Each range will normally have single, Dual or multi point calibration. That is enough for the firmware to provide the required accuracy.

IIRC the Exx series are dual range devices. On many cameras, range 1 bias voltages provide coverage up to 150C. Range 2 covers above 150C but the maximum depends upon whether the camera has more ranges that it can select as needed. The maximum temperature specification also dictates how many ranges are needed. 1000C max normally needs 3 ranges.  Many.inspdustrial cameras have 2, 3 or even 4 ranges.

IIRC the Exx has two ranges. That would suggest that the E30 uses its second range for up to 350C. If this is the case, and the full 650C capability is enabled, I would expect the calibration to be present and likely correct for coverage up to 650C. Whether the accuracy is as good as the E60, I cannot say as FLIR may use two point calibration of 200C(Lo) and 500C (Hi) for all I know. The E30 may use 200C (Lo) and 300C (Hi). It is the OEM's decision.
The bx sadly is not calibrated in range two so the calibration table is hopelessly inaccurate as it will be on defaults.
