IR camera resolution for fire detection
« on: March 30, 2017, 12:57:05 pm »
Hi all,

I'm fairly new here so I apologize for the ignorance :)

I'm taking part in a student project that deals with detecting fires with the use of a drone. We've been looking into some thermal imaging solutions but there are so many sensors/cameras out there that we are having a hard time narrowing it down.

We would like to understand how important the resolution is for fire detecting at a height of around ~500 meters and in addition, what fire size would it be able to detect at that height?

Looking at the Vuo Duo, we read some not very good reviews because of its low resolution..but it's price is relatively low...would it be enough for our needs?

Any sort of help will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

There are some papers written on this exact topic available for free on the internet. I have read them. They were produced by government agencies who fight forest fires. I suggest you google 'fire fighting thermal camera'

As to resolution....... that is directly related to the lens FOV, distance from target, predicted target size and required detection area or stipe.
