It seems to glow even when the camera is turned off.  I can see it if I look into the (empty) memory card slot.  Any ideas what it means?  Thanks.

The camera isn't technically off when you hold the power button, it just puts it into standby mode. You have to do a battery pull to fully turn it off.

In Ex series holding the power button for 4-6 sec will turn the camera off.

This is for all Exx cameras I have used. But after 6 hours standby, it turns itself completely off.

As already stated, the LED remains illuminated when in standby. The camera automatically drops into the 'OFF' state from standby after a set period of time and the LED is extinguished. The camera can be forced to 'OFF' by holding the power button down.

The ix and Ex series have the same LED present in standby.
