Swapping lenses on a FLIR E30
« on: January 19, 2017, 05:59:55 am »
Hello,

I have a FLIR E30(same as E40/E50/E60 for the purpose of this question) that I want to swap the factory lens with a 45 degree lens ( http://store.flir.com/product/ir-lens-f-10mm-45-degree/t-series-accessories ).
How would I go about removing the stock lens and installing the new lens ? I've looked through E30 the manual but it's not mentioned. I don't have the 45 lens manual.

Thanks

You just remove the cover around the existing 25° lens and then click into place the 45°. I'll go take some pictures for you.

See the attachments below. I didn't have a 45° lens to hand, so I used our 6° one - it looks hilarious! Same principle though.

Just for the sake of completeness... E60 mating with a 45° lens.
Chanc3 might forgot to tell you about the trick with the protective cap of the lens:
  • Take the protective cover from the back of the lens
  • Mate the nipples of the cover with the dimples in the plate on the camera
  • Twist it 45° CCW
  • The cover is loose now
  • Get the lens aligned with the white dots
  • Twist it 45° CW
Finished!
Don't forget to activate the calibration for the lens in the menu. Unfortunately the EXX does not use the contacts of the lens.
On the Internet, nobody knows you're a cat.

Thanks, was wondering why there is no tool to unscrew the top haha.
I also noticed that the contacts are not used, what are they for ? I guess at least identification ...

I would assume at least serial number and temperature of the lens. Maybe even the calibration data...
The T-Series uses the contacts and switch the calibration automatically.

Asked this on a new topic already when I found this thread:

I've been experimenting with the 45 degree wide angle add on lens on my E30 and was wondering how big the differences in temperature measurements (thermal gradient) would be due to the additional lenses.
So I tried certain reference measurements with and without the add on lens but without setting the camera configuration for this add on lens, because it seems to have no valid calibration anyway.
To my surprise I could not find any difference in any temperature reading (tried between 0-300 degrees Celsius), neither in the center nor in the outer frame of the picture.

Anybody else having an explanation because I was expecting at least a slight difference here?

Cheers
Hikanio
