Australian Computer Museum in trouble
« on: July 27, 2018, 06:21:46 pm »
Received this in my inbox yesterday. Is nothing sacred?

Quote
Australian COMPUTER MUSEUM --  Dispersal Days  --  Villawood NSW.

We have been told that BULLDOZERS will demolish our Villawood storage space in 2 weeks.

We have yet to find a suitable/affordable alternate space so ... "OPEN  DOOR  DAYS"

The old fruit shop at  888 Woodville Road, VILLAWWOOD, will be open for anyone
who cares to come and take anything away and help preserve our computing heritage.

Hours:  Sat 28th/Sun29th  9am to 9pm, then Monday-Friday 10am to 10pm, repeat the next week.

Off-street parking, easiest access is from south (Hume Hwy), see Google Maps.

Bring your Car, Van or Ute and enough muscle to help empty our shed.

Please tell your friends and/or work colleagues.

It is hard (for me, at least) to imagine how this would come about...
I would think geeks would be coming out of the woodwork to save this stuff...   :'(

If only it wasn't on the other side of the planet... sigh...

I'm meeting up with John next week to discuss what I can do for him. At the very least we can prioritise what he has left and I can offer him some room at my place. A lot of what he has are documents and manuals, I suggested that at the very least, they can be preserved digitally as opposed to taking up space in a container.

It wouldn't take long to unbind and scan a manual using a copier with a document feeder.
