New Youtube Paid Subscription Service – Compulsory?

Youtube are offering a new paid subscription service for viewers who want to watch their videos ad-free.
The catch for Youtube Partners & Content Producers is that it looks as though this is *compulsory* to join and agree to in order to continue to get monetisation on your videos!
