flip and mirroring pcb component.
« on: October 19, 2019, 12:01:59 am »
hi there,

i have an issue. when i X flip some footprint on the PCB Board, it will also mirror 3D body on it. but this is done only for certain component and not for all.
i tried to find differences between those component and others but didn't find something.

i can post a video of the problem if necessarry.

here's the video : https://youtu.be/gNfCiWWEhmw

the switch 3d body follow rightly the footprint when it's flipped, but the connector don't follow its footprint. X and Y flip affect only the footprint.

erfff.. how say... for positionning... what else^^

i tried to use the 3 snap point placement method, the problem become slightly different but always present. (body dont stay at the same place as before but now rotate around the wrong axis. so for a X flip 3D body goes on the back)

It pops up a warning when you're dragging and press X, right?  What does it say?

Surely you want to press L instead?

alright

it say : " you'r attempting to flip a component to the same side of the board. to flip a component to the other side of the board use the L shortcut key. do you wish to continue ?"

if components are 2pads flipping is OK but more than that you'll have a lot of problem, EBC bcomes CBE
likewise with IC's flipping on the the same layer would re-orient pin numbers, flipping is a nono unless you know what your doing   :-+

i dont exactly understand what do you mean, but i found my problem.  rotate is with the space bar and not the X/Y flip ^^

but it seems however to have a problem with the X/Y flip, some component are rotated with the X axis and are moved "on the back " when a flip is done. strangely....

You should probably delete and re-import them so they are fresh from the library.  Also go to layer stackup (D, K) and check if "flipped on layer" got turned on by that.  Turn it off.

X-Y on pcb is a no-no!
Mirrored parts is very common trap from datasheets (some gives you pads in top view and some in bottom (mirrored)), if you add and X-Y mirroring in PCB you will have great time debugging your boards.
Only space to rotate and L for layer change.

*For schematic is great though with 0 problems.

Rotate - select part then spacebar for 360 degrees rotation of parts/ text

is different from FLIP, selecting component then pressing X or Y

Re-load everything in the proper Layer otherwise you'll have a lot of problem in flipping & rotating things manually
