I have a design that has a number variants. These are not variants of a footprint but a variant of a populated value, i.e. 0.10Ω vs 0.12Ω. When attempting to create the outjob, the arrow that routes from the output to the output container is red rather than green. A search for "outjob red arrow" gave this explanation

When defining variant usage at the individual output level, if the chosen variant does not allow the variation of fabrication outputs and the variant is specified for use with a fabrication-based output, the variant entry in the OutJob will be red, and a hover-tip used to flag the situation. Generation of output using the chosen variant will proceed as though the setting [No Variations] had been chosen. In other words, the base (non-varied) design will be used as the source of the output instead.   https://www.altium.com/documentation/altium-designer/preparing-multiple-outputs-in-an-outputjob-ad?version=18.1

If I go to Project->Variants and click on a variant then click on Edit Variant, the check box for 'Allow variation of fabrication outputs' is checked So I don't think this is issue

Why is the arrow red? How do I fix it?

Do you get any warnings/errors when you compile the project?

Also, try resetting your Project Error Reporting (in Project Options), compiling again, and seeing if any warnings/errors pop up

Sounds like something is broken in your variant
