Irregularly shaped pads

According to altium wiki (
http://wiki.altium.com/display/ADOH/Creating+a+Custom+Pad+Shape
), you can create custom shape pads by using various design objects to create the shape, then place a small pad inside to define the connection point. I created a custom footprint and did exactly that however the DRC shows errors at those points. What am I doing wrong? Is there any other option I need to check?
Thanks
