Altium footprint for keypad....pad.
« on: April 16, 2015, 10:36:50 pm »
I am in the process of designing a new PCB and I will incorporate existing mechanical parts. I am looking for a reference footprint for this type of pads:

They look fairly common but I have been unable to locate any footprints for something similar.

Help is greately appreciated.

When you are drawing the PCB footprint, you just make a polygon region on the Top Layer.

For a patten like this, I use lines and arcs, then select all of them and create polygon from those items.

Then you place at lease one pad inside this area.  This is where the schematic to odd pad electrical connection is done.

In many instances like this, you will just have to make one for yourself, based on the button datasheet.

Thanka for the tip. I don't have a button datasheet. It is basically an off the shelve part, but I will reuse the rubber buttons for our project. I guess I will have to copy it as best as I can

Note: don't forget to set the soldermask property for the region, too!

Yeah, I'm guessing I have to draw it like this:

Yeah, I'm guessing I have to draw it like this:

Yes, that looks good & I see you have Pad 1 & Pad 2 already designated :)

Now, if the device is likely to be used in humid environments (like the subtropics/tropics or even by people with with perspiring hands), consider having the key-pads coated with gold for longevity.
