altium 19 component search / libraries
« on: March 31, 2020, 02:12:05 pm »
Ive been using Altium 19 recently and having a little trouble with the component search system - I used altium 16 before and the search was relatively fast and easy, but altium 19 the search function (in schematic - place part - file based libraries search) is very slow and slows the whole computer down while it runs, it also doesn't give any indication which library it's searching like it did in Altium 16, so you don't have any idea how far it is through the search AND it doesn't give you any option to stop the search like it used to.

Am I missing something? I feel like I am supposed to be using this in a different way because this is not working well at all. The speed thing I guess might be an issue with the computer or the setup, but I can't wrap my head around the other things

Hello,

Are your libraries on a fast drive? (SSD)

How many libraries do you have?

You can try blocking altium in the outgoing firewall and seeing if that speeds it up at all.

Under win10 open Resource Monitor, go to Disk tab, select Altium exe. Then it will tell you what files it is accessing.
Profile -> Modify profile -> Look and Layout ->  Don't show users' signatures
