Antialiasing Quality.
« on: June 09, 2011, 03:10:06 pm »
Hi,

How to turn Antialiasing on? slider in display preferences does not work. I have tried many options in drivers. In games and other software 3d is great. My card: Nvidia Gigabyte GTX460 OC.

3d is shitty in AD09 and AD10 and move render in AD10 is also pixelized

Since I don't have AD10, I can't comment on the slider.
Try to force AA in nvidia drivers, if you haven't already: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=558994
Another option is to get a higher resolution screen (the aliasing is due to the low dot pitch of your screen).

I've never had a problem with AD 3d quality, it does what it needs to do.
If you need to do a fancy render, import the .step file into another program.

I have an older ATI card. Saphire Radeon X300E with 256MB RAM and antialiasing works perfectly for me and my monitor is 1920x1080 so I hardly notice notice any pixelation on the graphics.

1080p should be ok.

Here are some screenshots, no AA, 94dpi
- basic pcb with block components:

Even at 1080, images without anti-aliasing don't look as good.

What software are you using?

Have you conducted tests with different programs?

It looks like it's more likely to be the program you're using than graphics card or the drivers.

Software? Move was generated in AD10 that does not matter.

Here screenchots from AD09

zero antialiasing, force in drivers do nothing in altium, all other software and games are ok

in Altium official videos same effect: zero antialiasing

two years and they still can not fix this?

There you go then.

Kicad which uses Wings for 3D also has no anti-aliasing.

Not all software does it. It's not your graphics card, it's the software. Aliasing works for me in OpenOffice.org, Adobe PDF reader and Inkscape but not in Kicad and probably not Altium.

AD need very good GPU for complex pcb's in 3d but has no antialiasing even in AD10 when they put slider for AA, this sucks sooo much

How thick are the lines btw, <7mil?

Forcing works with my ATI card:

Maybe try with a program like atitool/rivatuner/nvtray, and not in the drivers.

If I go down to 1mil silk, quality does get worse. But I would never go that thin, always use >7mil IMO.

I had the same problem with my ATI HD4830. Now I found the solution! Just uncheck "Use Ordered Blending in 3D"

Woohoo! Old thread I know but that last step worked for me! In all my years I thought antialiasing in Altium 3D was some sort of April fool's joke or the slider was for 2D - had never seen it work until just now. Turning off Ordered Blending and turning antialiasing DOWN to something like 4 or 5 did the trick. Also attempting to force to maxes in Nvidia control panel (seems to act more like a hint that the user "might appreciate some antialiasing at some point if you wouldn't mind terribly please"), GT 730 and older Altium. I assume this would be different for 18+.

I thought worth the post to say it can be done, and isn't a myth.
