PCB 'Library only' Mechanical layer?
« on: May 05, 2016, 12:38:27 pm »
Hi,

As I understand it, the only space for free text in a PCB library component is the Description line in the library component parameters.

Is it possible to add more parameters somewhere, or make one of the mechanical layers a 'library only' layer, so that part drawing info can be written there, but doesnt get exported to the PCB files?

Basically, I want to add a table so that it can be used for config control - noted who drew it, when it has been reviewed, and on what board/project it has been proved to be fit for purpose.

The 'Description' parameter is a good place for a current status, as that can be included on a BoM and so reviewers know which parts specifically need reviewing and which don't - but it would be useful to have more than one text string available.

I know mechanical layers can be turned off, but even so the component would still have the info there, any so selecting the component would include the area where the text box is on another layer, hence looking for a neater solution.

Cheers,
Pete
