From PCB to Schematic file

Is there a way to convert a PCB file into a schematic file.

I know this is going back to front but i have been asked to reverse engineer an older design with no information other than a sample board.

I would like to,  having generated the artwork ( transcribed the board visually), convert the artwork to a sensible schematic file.

It would be challenging, but may be possible for at least some designs.
The program needs to identify footprints by recognizing sets of pads and correlating them to devices kept in a BOM list or similar database.

There is a "Create Netlist from Connected Copper" option in the PCB editor under Design > Netlist.  I'm frankly not sure if you can do anything useful with the netlist other than use it as a guide to manually recreate the schematic, though.  Still, it should be a lot easier than transcribing it visually.

I  am aware o that option but do not see how to use it on the way from PCB artwork to a schematic.

I guess a case of a" tits_on_a_bull " situation.... useless.
