How easy is it for Altium to...
« on: June 10, 2020, 11:52:51 am »
If someone produces a  MCAD enclosure and sends me a step file, how easy is it to create an outline to fit the enclosure and push connectors etc.. about to fit when they do umpteen revisions of it.

Tried doing this in EAGLE/Fusion 360 with the new integration and it works really well - couldn't see a way to do it in Circuit Studio, altering the board outlines manually all the time (complex shape) to fit the step dimensions gets boring real fast. Does Designer have something like the Eagle/Fusion 360 pairing? Where you can import a step model and create PCB outline from that?

Circuitstudio 1.3 can make an outline from 3D body.
This feature was removed in later versions, Altium must have decided it was too good to give to CS users.
You can run 1.3 alongside the latest version just for that feature if you wish.

Thanks volts :)

I'm guessing if CS can (or could!) do it, then Designer will definitely be able too

Part way down it details how you can take from a step file of an enclosure the outline for the pcb
