I'd convert mine to a standalone licence if it weren't for the fact I use AD on 4 different machines at times. (home and office)
so ? no problem. you are allowed to use standalone licences for that. the Altium EULA EXPLICITLY ALLOWS you to install it on a work machine and on a home machine . since you can only be physically present either at work or at home there is no issue. ( and don't smartass me with my company is at home.. then this issue is irrelevant )
The standalone licence is also EXPLICITLY ALLOWED to be installed on more than one machine AT THE SAME SITE provided they are not run concurrently. ( if you attempt to launch concurrently you will immeditalyy get a popup that the licence is in use on another station. altium broadcasts a network packet every 5 minutes that it is in use and all other stations running the same licence will lock up.
We do this all the time. i have altium standalone installed in my office , in the lab on two or 3 machines. if i am in the lab i shut down altium in my office and go work in the lab and vice versa. not a problem , not in violation of the EULA as it is always me ( the licence user. even though the licence is owned by my employer it is tied to me as the user. if i leave the company the licence will transfer to my succesor at the company ) using it. and i can only use it on one computer at a time. if i need to travel i have my licence on the corporate laptop as well.
and i could install it at home as well. All perfectly legal. ( i have my own licence for home use so i don't need to )
the only thing that is EXPLICITLY FORBIDDEN is to install the same licence in two geographical locations that are BOTH work. Let's say you have a headquarters in new york and one in san diego. they cannot have the same standalone licence file. Licences are geographically tied. there is an exception : i am in san jose and have a standalone licence being the primary user. i need to go to a customer site for a few days or weeks to do some work there. i can take my licence on a laptop and work from there since i am the primary user. if i return yto my place of work the installation travels with me.
if i PERMANENTLY move to a new location outside a 40 mile radius of my current place i need to contact altium and transfer the license geographically.
They have actually licences per region , country , continent and a global one. each has its own price tag.
WARNING : above is how the licensing was explained to me. I have asked altium several times if it was ok to hae work and home install and the answer was always yes, that's in our eula. Do your own legal homework ! i am not liable for butt-covering.
