How long to learn Altium for an old vet????......

I know a CAD guy that has been doing layouts since hand tape days.  If he grew a beard, I'm sure it would be grey.  He typically does really good work, but the last software package he became skilled with was Pcad.  Conceptualizing the layout isn't the problem.  It's just learning a new tool. 

Question:
How long would you expect it to take for a vet layout guy to get up to speed with Altium?

Learning altium will take a few days for the basics. Getting proficient in it will take a good month.

Altium is a life-long learning commitment. the tool constantly evolves.

With the narrow scope of the old vet learning a new tool in a company sponsored training type activity, what's the best path do you think?  Pay tutorials?  Altium sponsored class?  Probably starting from the beginning, and the more structure the better.

Also is there a good way to avoid the typical habits of trying to force the new tool to do things in a familiar way rather than learning how the tool wants you to work?

I think you can get up to sped in Altium in a few hundred hours. Which sounds like a lot, but it really isnt. After all, the tool provides some really powerful feeatures, which takes a lot of time to get used to and to find new ways to speed up the design process. And getting a basic library.
After that, a basic PCB, like an arduino, can pop out in a day.
