mulitple pad edge connector
« on: October 25, 2019, 12:34:24 pm »
hi there,

i try to draw an USB C edge connector but i'm not able to assign both side pad to pin symbol's. i tried this method : https://www.eevblog.com/forum/altium/assign-one-pin-to-multiple-pads/
but it don't works, and return some various error even if i follow documentation : (https://www.altium.com/documentation/altium-nexus/working-with-jumper-components-ad)

so i want to make an USB C edge card connector, and thinked to create usb footprint pad only on one side (probably on top)to find other possibilities to do to clear properly this issue and solve multiple pad assignation problem.

so i would like to know your opinion and practices about that. could you help me.

i you can i would also know standard best practices about USB edge connector creation.

thanks

Just have multiple pins in the schematic symbol, all with the same name. For example - if your symbol has multiple GND lines, each one should have its own pin, and assigned its own pad.
I am available for freelance work.

How is it trash?  ::)
You can stack the pins and it means only one pin is needed on the schematic.

Anyway, I've used both methods above and it works, so not sure what you are missing.

it's trash cause the replace/variant an other like function may will have problem to reassign  pin in case of swapping component.

first method don't works for me, i use altium nexus. and i don't know what i could forget.

If you have another variant with less pins that already works, then try copying that footprint?

i dont have... it's my first edge connector with altium. have you one in library  ?

to make my edge connector i mod my symbol (12 pin connector) to a jumper type symbol (in place of standard), i made my 2x12 pad edge connector footprint (both side pad are named as pin : 1...12)
and i added jumper property value as named.... so 1 to 12 jumper value.

i get 12 error : duplicate pad designator on Pads.....

The component type should be Standard, not jumper, unless it is only being used as a jumper. But I'm not sure how much that matters.

It seems like the duplicate designator warning is an option that can be turned off if necessary? https://www.altium.com/documentation/altium-nexus/workspacemanager-err-componentswithduplicatepinscomponents-with-duplicate-pins-ad

Anyway, I would look for an existing connector in the library so you can copy how they have done it.
