Complex schematic symbols (large FPGAs)
« on: April 30, 2017, 08:21:52 pm »
I'm working with a large FPGA (324 pins). My goal is to have schematic symbol for each bank, power, programming, etc. Drawing these as independent objects in the schematic library is easy. But after putting it into a schematic, everything moves as one thing.

My goal is to have each bank able to be moved and positioned independently so it can be positioned properly on a schematic. Is this possible in Altium?

You need to make them all as separate gates. I'm not familiar with Altium, but it is obviously possible. Look at how any of the standard 74xx logic is done and do the same.

I think I just figured it out. I found the "New part" under the Tools menu. This adds multiple parts to a schematic symbol with each part able to be moved and placed independently.
