Managing Vertices for a Region?
« on: February 15, 2013, 04:40:13 pm »
I have a very complex region that I created by drawing lines, then doing Tools -> Convert -> Create Region from Selected Primitives.  In one arcing section I some how managed to get tons of vertices.  I can't figure out how to delete vertices.  I can drag them around until the cows come home, but surely there is a way to add and delete vertices along the edge of a region.

I feel like I'm missing something simple, but just can figure this out.

Moving a vertex on top of an existing one removes it.

The recent release 13 update included a list editor for polygon/region vertices.

Take a bending point( the square box on a bend) and simply drag it to coincide with another box. As long as you are in edit mode the boxes stay. Terminate edit mode and altium re-evaluates the polygon and removes coinciding points. So when you re-enter polygon edit the double is gone. The same goes for entire vecotrs ( as the poster above wrote )

AH, it was me not leaving and re-entering edit mode that was keeping those there.  That makes sense it would only evaluate and remove nodes on deselection.

Thanks for both the answers.

I'm still not getting it to work.  I wonder if I have some setting changed that isn't allowing this.  I set snapping to fairly large and snapped the vertices to one snap point and still couldn't get rid of them.  No idea at all about removing arcs.  It might be because I converted into a region from primitives.  I'll have to play more.

Edit: When I make a region from line primitives, I can eliminate vertices fine.  I create a box of 4 lines.  Convert to region from primitives.  I can make all disappear to just a single dot.   Delete one line in that box and replace with an edge arc (P E) then convert to region.  Anything around the edges of the arc just goes nuts.

So it is the arcs that are causing me issues.  Pulling from the edge of an arc only creates new vertices.

This is the only thing I've found:

http://wiki.altium.com/display/ADOH/Editing+Arcs+of+Outlines

But when I right-click on region I don't see the Move Vertices option.  I am trying to build a PCB Lib, so I went to a PCBDoc to see if there were more options.  There are, but still don't see a way to move vertices on an arc.

All you need to do is select the region first (this will highlight the region and all it's vertices), then just click on the vertex (keep the mouse button pressed) that you want to move, and drag it to it's new location, release the mouse button.

That works great for all straight lines.  When you drag on the center dot of an arc, it will move the arc.  When you click on the edge of an arc, it will create a new straight line vertex.  Nothing seems to allow for arc editing.  I've changed to using approximated arcs with lines for now.  I had to get the antenna design done.
