Measuring distances for pcb library
« on: March 11, 2016, 07:02:24 pm »
Hello

I am creating a pcb library, so now I wanna draw line on top overlay and I want to draw it in exact size from datasheet.
I know it can be possible by measuring distance tools but it can be a bit difficult to draw in this way.
Is there another way to draw a square shape in exact size ??

Thx in advanced

Hi

With some packages, you draw an arbitrary square and then click on properties. You enter the correct dimensions in that pop up and that's all there is to it.

Or just use the "PCB Inspector" panel. Draw something approximately correct, arrange it to be perfect using the Inspector, and copy-and-paste as required.

Or set the grid to the appropriate unit and any fraction of the desired measurement.

If you want to show the dimension for some reason, that's under P, D, L (Place/Dimension/Linear), or the other kinds.

For simple shapes I tend to use the jump dialog. Start off with JR to work from origin then series of JL to draw shape outline then move whole shape to where I want it.

I temporarily set the origin to the corner of the shape I'm drawing then edit the line lengths in their properties to get exact dimensions.

thank you with these ways.   :-+
I drew it perfectly with your help specially linear dimension.

Now I have another problem with Auto routing which that must be in the other topic (for category forum rule)

Hi

The simple answer for auto routing issues ... don't use auto routing.:)

For more complex shapes you can also import a dxf or dwg.  It's a bit clunky, though, and not often worth the trouble of firing up a proper drawing program, but if you want to do something really detailed and accurate for some reason it could be worthwhile.
