Repeat directive not working as expected
« on: October 27, 2022, 03:54:32 am »
Hello all,

I have a sheet I need to copy multiple times and then take advantage of the copy room feature to easily create many copies. However, despite the procedure being simple I can't seem to get it to work. To illustrate my problem I created a very simply schematic,

I then created a parent sheet and added the Repeat directive. The directive did something because the sheet then showed the stacked graphic.

However, the child sheet   only shows 1 tab in the bottom of the schematic when all the tutorial say you should see multiple tabs.

Also, when I try and import changes to a PCB only one instance of the child sheet shows up. When I compile/validate the project I get no errors. However, the only clue I have gathered as to why it isn't working is an error message I get from the item manager.

I couldn't find much on this error online and I am at a loss. Repeating a sheet seems so simple in all the tutorials yet I am failing so hard. Any advice or clues on how to fix this issue would be much appreciated! Thanks,
Sami

I found out why it wasn't working, and I just wanted to post the answer in case someone runs into this problem in the future and I dont want them wasting a few hours as I did. Turns out a repeated sheet requires there to be a sheet entry to work properly. I simply added a dummy entry connected to nothing, placed a No ERC to avoid an error, and re-validated / compiled the project and it worked as expected.
