Drill files with decimal points and CAMtastic
« on: November 10, 2020, 05:33:58 pm »
Not sure how, but my older stand-alone 1999 version of CAMtastic is better than Altium Designer 19's built-in.   :palm:

Neither can apparently deal with drill files which use decimal points though.

They both translate "X39.847Y124.355" into "X398Y124" or "X39Y84", regardless of the zero suppression or precision settings.

Does anyone know of a way around this or do I need to purchase a real CAM viewer and finally give up on Craptastic?

I don't even know when was the last time Altium updated their built-in CAMtastic. I suggest switching to FAB 3000 (or the free DFM Now if you only want to view files), as these are updated fairly regularly

I have kinda given up on CAMtastic as it always seemed to screw up files with fine features

Thanks for the heads-up.  Altium has actually been quietly removing parts of CAMtastic for years. Just last month I realized you can no longer export to dxf.

How much is FAB 3000?

All good

Not sure about price as company paid for it. I do know company that makes FAB 3000 prefers monthly (?) licenses, but we managed to get a lifetime one
Also if you want to just view then DFM Now is the free alternative, basically a cut down version of FAB 3000
