go grab my base library

http://siliconvalleygarage.com/downloads/altium-library.html

it's got all you need ot get started. those footprints have been used in thousands of boards.

last version of Altium should import library from Eagle, you can find a large selectio of Eagle library here: www.element14.com/community/community/cadsoft_eagle/eagle_cad_libraries

One of the great things about Altium is that it is DEAD EASY to create footprints for standard packages.

And, thank you to free_electron for providing that.

free_electron: your download page says you update that almost daily.  Is that still the case?

it has slowed down a bit. i actually need to push a new version on to the web. i am overhauling the lib with a couple of new features like centroids and courtyards.

You did a great job Free_electron. The library is very impressive ! I see you put SMD resistor value in 3d text. I would like to put such 3d text on the component body on my own designed libary. How can I do that ?

that is a font i designed as extrusions. there's is somewhere a part that has all characters.

The library is undergoing a massive overhaul right now (both schematic and PCB ). I've learned a bunch of new tricks and i'm implementing them in the library.

There is a generic selection included with Altium in Libraries/PCB/Surface Mount.
I normally use the "M"edium density version for any hand soldering.

Will those tricks be published in your book about PCBs?
BTW, any ETA for the book?
